Rescue and Awareness Center
The creation of our Rescue and Awareness Center is the focal point of our fundraising efforts. This proposed center will embody everything we want to do as an organization and give us an opportunity to reach these goals. We recognize the benefits of training and every member of our staff will take part in the daily training of the dogs in our care. Designed to house up to 50 dogs, the center will be more of a “messaging platform” than a normal shelter. Before any dog will be eligible to go to a prospective home, they will be AKC Canine Good Citizen tested. All adopters will be given the training tools they need to be a successful, responsible pet owner and DSN will provide lifetime training support free of charge for any dog that goes through our center.
Some dogs will participate in daily educational and training workshops and others will stay at the center longer to take part in our stage shows. We will have multiple performances daily; each designed to educate the public on the importance of training and responsible pet ownership, and to raise awareness for the national plight of the shelter dog. The center will also feature a high energy stage show highlighting our trained dogs, designed for an audience that is seeking an entertainment experience like no other…and for a good cause.
The Rescue and Awareness Center will also feature an adoption pavilion for qualifying rescue groups that do not have their own facility. Part of what we want to do is help small, independent rescues place the dogs that are in their care. These organizations do such important work and without their efforts, many more lives would be lost. The adoption pavilion will be open on the weekends and will be a place where rescuers can bring their animals in hopes of finding them homes. The pavilion and our training resources will be offered at no charge as we do not wish to divert funds from these groups that would otherwise be used for animal care needs. DSN will also offer public seminars on a variety of dog related topics during each adoption weekend.
